Child Mortality

UN Development Goal 4 is to Reduce Child Mortality
This goal has one target:
4.A: To reduce by two-thirds, between 1990 and 2015, the under-five mortality rate.

According to an Article in TIME from 2007, Egypt cut their child mortality rate 68% between 1990 and 2007. They were the world leader for cutting child mortality at the time.

According the World Bank, in 2005 the mortality in Egypt was 31 deaths per 5,000 live births. In 2013 that number was 22. So the mortality rate is shrinking steadily.

The above shows how Egypt measures up to other countries in child mortality (gapminder.org).

The UN Development website summarizes that Egypt is most likely to reach the target by the end of 2015! This is a goal Egypt has done very well at.

The website also states that disparities still exist between geographical and socioeconomic regions and that specific policies need to be implemented to address this problem.
